Class Excursion — Forest Adventure in Kõrvemaa

The class excursion is a forest adventure — an exciting and educational 24-hour experience in the beautiful nature of Kõrvemaa. Together, the class undergoes survival-skills training, learns to shoot with bows and airsoft weapons, completes a GPS orientation tour, and plays team games that call for smartness and cooperation. Water fun awaits by the lake with two large inflatable boats and about a dozen SUP paddle-boards — all with rescue equipment. The journey to and from the RMK campsite at Lake Pikkjärvi is made in a military truck adapted for passengers. Herman Events brings an outdoor kitchen, prepares three delicious meals, and provides large military tents for sleeping after the adventure.

Day 1 — Arrival & Lake Activities

The adventure begins with an afternoon gathering at Aegviidu railway station — easily reached by train from Tallinn. A military truck takes the group through the beautiful Kõrvemaa landscape to the RMK campsite by Lake Pikkjärvi, where an outdoor kitchen and large military tents are ready. After a nutritious lunch, children put on life jackets and head out on the lake in dinghies and on SUP paddle-boards.

At the camp, the programme, goals, and camp rules are introduced. Before the lake activities, participants receive life jackets and safety training. Time on the lake depends on the weather and conditions.

Survival Skills Training

Once back ashore and dry, the group dives into wilderness survival training: reading a compass and topographic maps, reducing the risk of getting lost, emergency overnight techniques, fire-making methods, foraging basics, and how to make yourself visible to rescuers. In the afternoon, participants try bow and air-gun shooting under the supervision of experienced instructors.

The training discusses how people end up lost in the forest and plays through a simulated “getting lost” scenario. Participants also learn what can be eaten in nature, how to make fire in different ways, how to spend an emergency night outdoors, and how to make themselves visible to searchers.

After dinner there is free time, followed by a reasonable rest time decided by the accompanying teachers.

Day 2 — Team Games & GPS Hike

The morning starts with warm pancakes followed by energetic team games. Afterwards, participants receive maps and GPS devices and set off on an independent ~5 km hike. The route crosses the Kõnnu bog boardwalk, two lookout towers, the scenic Lake Paukjärv, and the Soodla river. The Tour Guide meets the group at the finish with the truck and drives everyone back to Aegviidu railway station.

Before leaving, belongings are packed, the camp is cleaned, and equipment is loaded into the truck. The Tour Guide meets the group at the finish together with the truck and the children’s bags. Before boarding the train, a stop at the local shop can be made for pocket-money snacks.
